HB 156 Summary

• Authorizes the Board of Trustees of Briarwood Presbyterian Church to appoint and employ one or more peace officers to protect the safety and integrity of the church and its ministries.

• Peace officers employed under this authority shall possess all duties and powers of law enforcement officers in Alabama.

• All peace officers must be certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission and meet all of its requirements, including continuing education.

• The authority of these peace officers is restricted exclusively to the campuses and properties of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
