HB 205 Summary

• Prohibits a registrar of voters from running as a candidate for any elective public office while serving as a registrar.

• Requires a registrar intending to run for elective public office to resign by written notice to the state board of appointment no later than the day the registrar files a declaration of candidacy.

• Automatically terminates a registrar's term on the date the registrar files a declaration of candidacy for public office, regardless of whether formal resignation notice was submitted.

• Amends Sections 17-3-2 and 17-3-3 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to establish these restrictions and automatic termination provisions.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
