HB225 Summary

• Amends Section 32-10-1 to allow drivers involved in accidents with no apparent serious physical injury or death to immediately move drivable vehicles from the roadway to the shoulder, emergency lane, median, or nearby location.

• Authorizes employees of the Alabama Department of Transportation and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to move, require movement of, or assist in moving vehicles disabled by accidents from state highways when the disabled vehicle creates a traffic hazard or obstructs traffic.

• Prohibits movement of disabled vehicles involved in accidents with injury or death until directed by a law enforcement officer.

• Provides immunity from liability to the Department of Transportation and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency for damages caused by moving vehicles under this section.

• Makes the act effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
