HB293 Summary

• Requires health insurance contracts issued, amended, or renewed on and after January 1, 2017, to include specific language guaranteeing that health care providers' requests for payment via ACH electronic funds transfer must be honored.

• Applies to contracts between health insurers, contracted vendors, or regional care organizations and covered health care providers including physicians, dentists, chiropractors, optometrists, hospitals, and licensed health care facilities.

• Mandates required contract language be set in bold, 12-point type, all capital letters stating that ACH payment requests cannot be delayed, rejected, or used to adversely affect the provider.

• Permits alternative electronic funds transfer methods including wire transfers and private card network payments in addition to ACH transfers.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
