• Clarifies that the mandatory one-year expulsion for firearm possession on school property is not considered a zero tolerance policy and may be modified on a case-by-case basis by school boards and superintendents.

• Defines "firearm" narrowly according to Section 921 of Title 18 of the United States Code and prohibits expansion to include other weapons or objects.

• Effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
