• Award interim alimony in divorce, legal separation, or annulment cases filed after January 1, 2016, if the spouse maintains marriage validity, needs interim support, and the other spouse can pay.

• Authorize courts to award reasonable interim fees, costs, and litigation expenses including discovery, expert witnesses, and attorney fees from marital property or current income to ensure equitable access to resources.

• Establish prioritized alimony awards after final judgment: rehabilitative alimony (limited to 5 years absent extraordinary circumstances) as primary option, with periodic alimony available if rehabilitation is not feasible.

• Set periodic alimony duration limits of no more than the length of the marriage, except for marriages of 20+ years which have no time limit.

• Apply only to actions filed after January 1, 2017, while cases filed before that date continue under existing law; effective date January 1, 2017.
