HB39 Summary

• Repeals Sections 9, 10, and 11 of Act 85-546 from the 1985 Regular Session, which authorized an additional circuit judgeship in the 29th Judicial Circuit that was scheduled to be filled in 2016.

• Reduces the number of circuit judges in the 29th Judicial Circuit from three to two by amending Section 12-17-20 of the Alabama Code.

• Eliminates the provision that had been repeatedly amended since 1985 to delay the filling of the additional judgeship position.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
