HB461 Summary

• Amends Section 36-25A-2 of the Alabama Code to modify the definition of "serial meeting" under the Alabama Open Meetings Act.

• Expands the existing exemption for boards of trustees of institutions of higher education established by the Constitution of Alabama of 1901 to also include statutorily created four-year institutions of higher education and Athens State University.

• Exempts trustees of covered higher education institutions from "serial meeting" restrictions when conducting searches to fill leadership positions including president, vice president, provost, dean, department head, or athletic coach.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
