• Applies only to Wilcox County and establishes minimum qualifications for sheriffs elected or appointed on or after the bill's effective date.

• Requires sheriff candidates to be a U.S. citizen, county resident for at least one year, registered voter in the county for at least one year, and at least 25 years of age.

• Requires candidates to possess a high school diploma or GED, have three or more years of prior law enforcement service, and have never been convicted of a felony.

• Requires all elected sheriffs to complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually, approved by the Alabama Sheriff's Association or National Sheriff's Association.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon becoming law.
