HB 51 Summary

• Amends Section 41-21-1, Code of Alabama 1975, to reduce the number of copies of the Code of Alabama distributed by the Secretary of State to state agencies, departments, boards, commissions, and other entities.

• Reduces distribution to Legislature members from up to two sets to one set per member for each legislative term.

• Significantly reduces copies to multiple state agencies, including the Attorney General's office (from 55 to 4 sets), Supreme Court librarian (from 10 to 20 sets), and Department of Court Management (from 4 to 2 sets).

• Changes distribution requirements to a request-based system where eligible recipients must submit written requests once every four years within 30 days of notice from the Secretary of State.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
