HB513 Summary

• Amends Alabama Code Section 32-9-20 to allow vehicles with conversion equipment for compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) to exceed standard weight limits by up to 2,000 pounds on federal interstate highways in accordance with 23 U.S.C. Section 127(s).

• Requires vehicle operators to provide written proof or certification that the vehicle has an EPA-certified natural gas engine or EPA-approved conversion unit installed and that the vehicle operates primarily on CNG or LNG.

• Applies the weight allowance at both state highway and federal interstate highway levels for vehicles equipped with eligible natural gas conversion equipment.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
