HB 80 Summary

• Renames the "Impaired Drivers Trust Fund" to the "Alabama Head and Spinal Cord Injury Trust Fund" throughout Alabama Code sections 16-38A-1, 16-38A-2, 16-38A-4, 32-5A-191, and 32-5A-191.2.

• Maintains the trust fund's purpose as a payer of last resort for neuro-trauma care costs including post-acute medical care, rehabilitation therapies, medication, attendant care, home modifications, and equipment for citizens with head or spinal cord injuries.

• Preserves the advisory board structure with 17 member organizations and agencies including the Alabama Medical Association, Head Injury Foundation, Department of Public Health, and state legislative representatives.

• Continues directing portions of DUI fine revenues to the renamed trust fund for distribution by the Division of Rehabilitation Services starting October 1, 1994.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
