Richard Kent Hanby passed away on November 14, 2015, at age 77, leaving surviving family members including his wife of 52 years, Janice, two daughters, two sons, nine grandchildren, and other relatives.

Served four years active duty in the United States Navy and graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor's degree and a Master of Forestry from Yale University.

Maintained a forestry career spanning over 50 years with expertise in prescribed fire management across the Southeast, including work as state lands manager for the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources beginning in 1982.

Returned to Auburn University in 1993 as Director of Student Services and instructor of Fire Management, retiring in 2003 but continuing to teach fire management part-time and lead Alabama Certified Prescribed Burn Manager workshops until 2014.

House of Representatives records his death with deep sadness while celebrating his life and offering heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.
