Judge Meigs earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with Magna Cum Laude honors from the University of Alabama and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama Law School

Admitted to the Alabama State Bar on September 28, 1982; practiced law in Centreville from October 1982 through July 1987, then established a solo practice until his appointment as Circuit Judge in 1991

Served as member and President of the Bibb County Cattlemen's Association, Chair of the Bibb County E911 Board, announcer for the Bibb County Choctaws Football Team since 1988, and is an active member of Brent Baptist Church
