• Commends Deputy Stephen Thomas of the Cullman County Sheriff's Department as a nominee for the 2016 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, Alabama's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

• On December 27, 2014, Deputy Thomas responded to a call in Holly Pond where a mentally unstable individual threatened harm to others while brandishing a samurai sword.

• When the individual advanced toward deputies despite verbal commands to drop the weapon and Deputy Fortenberry's taser deployment, Deputy Thomas fired his weapon to stop the assailant and save the life of Deputy Fortenberry and others present.

• The Alabama House of Representatives recognizes Deputy Thomas for demonstrating immense courage, diligence, and quick response in the life-threatening situation and for his commitment to protect and serve Cullman County residents.
