Recognizes Officer Spencer Youmans of the City of Opp Police Department as a nominee for the 2016 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, the state's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

On July 16, 2015, an armed individual fled a vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 84 West in Opp and approached highway workers and an occupied church while displaying a handgun.

Officer Youmans and Lieutenant Corey Boothe positioned themselves in front of the armed individual to protect others in the area; when the individual opened fire, the officers returned fire and immediately provided medical assistance.

Officer Youmans demonstrated immense courage and quick thinking that saved the lives of highway workers and church occupants by placing himself in the path of danger to protect others.

The House of Representatives honors Officer Youmans with this resolution and directs that he receive a copy as evidence of the legislature's admiration and esteem.
