Griffin was born January 11, 1931, in Clay County, Alabama, to Homer and Eva Smith Griffin and graduated from high school on May 13, 1949.

Earned a bachelor's degree from Jacksonville State University in 1954 and a master's degree from the University of Montevallo in 1974.

Employed at Winterboro School from 1954-1965 as a teacher and principal before transferring to Talladega City School System.

Recognized for his service as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Big Springs Church and his dedication to his family and community.
