Officer Joey Brown of the Orange Beach Police Department is recognized as the recipient of the 2016 Alabama Legislative Medal of Honor for Law Enforcement, Alabama's highest law enforcement award for extraordinary courage in the line of duty.

On June 20, 2015, Officer Brown rescued six individuals from a 24-foot vessel stranded on the Perdido Pass jetty wall after striking a submerged jetty, despite extremely rough seas, strong currents, and shallow water that prevented other emergency responders from reaching the vessel.

Officer Brown boarded a personal water craft at great personal risk and extracted passengers one at a time from the stranded vessel as it was being slammed against the wall and rock jetty by riptide seas.

The House of Representatives recognizes Officer Brown for demonstrating immense courage, diligence, quick thinking, and unwavering commitment to protect and serve the residents of Orange Beach.

Officer Brown receives a copy of this resolution as evidence of the Legislature's admiration and esteem.
