J.H. Sullins is honored on the occasion of his 90th birthday celebration by the Alabama House of Representatives.

Sullins was born February 26, 1926, in Marion County, Alabama, grew up on a farm, and learned to play the fiddle as a child.

He worked in Mobile shipyards during World War II and formed a country band with other Marion County natives; was drafted into the Navy in 1941 but received a medical discharge after fourteen days.

Sullins became a Baptist preacher in 1972, pastored several churches, and worked as Maintenance Supervisor at North West Alabama Community College from 1978 until his retirement in 1989.

He remains an active member of the Clifty Creek Bluegrass Band and celebrated his 90th birthday on February 26, 2016.
