Commends Wendell and Nan Gibbs and recognizes Gibbs Farms for being named the 2016 Alabama Farm of Distinction by the Alabama Farm-City Committee.

Gibbs Farms is a cattle farm in Cleburne County founded in 1961 that spans three states with 750 owned acres and over 1,000 leased acres, producing Simmental-Angus beef cattle.

The farm annually markets approximately 500 Sim-Angus bulls and heifers, ships 2-3 loads of 50,000 pounds of feeder cattle to Kansas, and leases 26 bulls to major breeding companies while selling semen from 13 others.

Wendell Gibbs is a past president of the Alabama Cattlemen's Association and Beef Cattle Improvement Association; the family has three children, 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

As winners of the Farm of Distinction competition selected from six finalists, Gibbs Farms received a cash award and the honor of representing Alabama in the Southeastern Farmer of the Year Competition at the Sunbelt Agricultural Expo in Moultrie, Georgia, October 18-20, 2016.
