Commends Dr. Daniel Steele, principal of Thompson Sixth Grade Center in the Alabaster City School System, on his selection as 2016-2017 Principal of the Year by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals and National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Dr. Steele holds a Bachelor's degree from Covenant College, Master's degree from University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Educational Specialist and Doctor of Education degrees from Samford University.

Dr. Steele has served as an educator for 23 years, including 15 years as an administrator, and created a school culture focused on student achievement with collaborative formative assessment analysis.

His initiatives resulted in a 60 percent increase in student reading proficiency and 68 percent increase in math proficiency, and he implemented an advanced classroom observation tool ("eleot") to improve teacher professional development.

The House directs that a copy of the resolution be provided to Dr. Steele as recognition of his achievements.
