SB 199 Summary

• Authorizes the Board of Trustees of Briarwood Presbyterian Church to appoint and employ one or more peace officers to protect the church's safety and property.

• Peace officers employed under this authority shall have all duties and powers of law enforcement officers in Alabama.

• All peace officers must be certified by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission and meet all certification requirements, including continuing education.

• The authority of these peace officers is restricted solely to the campuses and properties of Briarwood Presbyterian Church.

• The act becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
