AL SB22

Amends Section 13A-6-2 of the Alabama Code to add aggravated child abuse under Section 26-15-3.1 as a felony that constitutes murder if death results during commission or attempt.

A person commits murder if they commit or attempt to commit aggravated child abuse and cause the death of another person during the commission or attempt.

Murder remains classified as a Class A felony with punishment of death or life imprisonment without parole as determined under Article 2 of Chapter 5 of the Alabama Code.

Bill is excluded from Amendment 621 constitutional requirements regarding local expenditures because it defines a new crime or amends the definition of an existing crime.

Act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
