SB271 Summary

• Amends Section 32-2-83 to replace references to "Director of the Department of Public Safety" with "Secretary of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency" regarding disposal of law enforcement vehicles and property.

• Authorizes the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency to sell vehicles and property to county or municipal law enforcement agencies and county or municipal entities, in addition to other state departments and agencies.

• Establishes that all authority, power, duties, and responsibilities of legacy agencies under Chapter 27, Title 41 of the Code of Alabama 1975 are transferred to and become the responsibility of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Secretary of Law Enforcement.

• Grants the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency authority to apply for grants and accept lawful gifts and donations.

• Directs that proceeds from vehicle and property sales be deposited into the Public Safety Fund in the State Treasury for use by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
