Amends Section 16-25A-18 of the Alabama Code regarding generic equivalent medications for Public Education Employees Health Insurance Programs (PEEHIP) patients.

Expands methods for prescribing physicians to indicate that a generic equivalent drug should not be substituted beyond the existing requirement of longhand writing on the prescription.

Allows physicians to indicate "do not substitute" using a mark or signature in the appropriate place on the prescription or through electronic prescription systems.

Permits physicians to use any of three designations: "medically Necessary," "dispense as written," or "do not substitute" to prevent generic substitution.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
