SB 304 Summary

• Allows a sheriff to issue or renew a pistol permit to a person residing in another county, in addition to persons residing in the sheriff's own county.

• Permits either the issuing sheriff or the sheriff of the county where the permittee resides to revoke a permit for any reason that could lead to denial under state or federal law.

• Requires a duplicate of the pistol permit be delivered to the sheriff of the county in which the permittee resides within seven days of issuance.

• Maintains existing requirements for permit issuance including 30-day processing time, National Instant Criminal Background Check, and valid permit duration of one to five years.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
