SB322 Summary

• Changes the title of the head of the Alabama Department of Labor from "Commissioner of Labor" to "Secretary of Labor" in Sections 25-2-1.1 and 25-2-6 of the Code of Alabama 1975.

• The Secretary of Labor will serve as advisor to the Governor and Legislature on employer-employee relations and wage earner welfare, remaining responsible to the Governor for departmental administration.

• The Secretary of Labor continues to be appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Governor, with vacancies filled in the same manner as original appointments.

• The Secretary must execute a bond of at least $10,000.00, take the constitutional oath of office, and devote full time to duties without holding other offices or engaging in conflicting business activities.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
