SB338 Summary

• Amends Section 32-9-20 of the Alabama Code to allow vehicles with conversion equipment for compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) operation to exceed standard weight limits by up to 2,000 pounds on gross, axle, tandem, or bridge formula weight limits.

• Requires vehicle operators to provide written proof or EPA certification that the vehicle has an EPA-certified natural gas engine or EPA-approved conversion unit installed and that the vehicle operates on such fuel.

• Applies the weight allowance only to vehicles that primarily operate on compressed natural gas or liquefied natural gas fuel.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
