SB39 Summary

• Continues the Board of Examiners of Assisted Living Administrators until October 1, 2020, under the Alabama Sunset Law.

• Removes the requirement that the physician board member be actively engaged in geriatric medicine practice, replacing it with a requirement to be "actively concerned in a practice with the care of chronically ill and infirm, aged patients."

• Board composition remains nine members: five licensed assisted living administrators, one physician, one nursing home administrator, and two consumer members (at least one age 65 or older).

• Preserves all existing statutes (Sections 34-2A-1 through 34-2A-16, Code of Alabama 1975) governing board operations, member terms, appointments, and responsibilities.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor.
