SB392 Summary

• Amends Section 36-25A-2 of the Alabama Open Meetings Act to expand the definition of "serial meeting" exceptions for higher education institution trustee boards.

• Extends existing exemption from "serial meeting" rules to boards of trustees of statutorily created four-year institutions of higher education, including Athens State University, in addition to constitutionally created institutions.

• Exempts trustee meetings involving searches to fill leadership positions (president, vice president, provost, dean, department head, or athletic coach) from serial meeting requirements and public notice obligations.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
