SB54 Summary

• Amends Sections 41-23-140 and 41-23-141 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to modify the Alabama Trails Commission and its Advisory Board membership and operations.

• Changes member term length from two years to four years for appointees, with the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and House Speaker appointees limited to no more than two consecutive terms.

• Adds new commission members including a Business Council of Alabama representative and modifies language regarding off-road vehicle users and state parks representation.

• Allows the Alabama Trails Commission to be transferred from the Department of Economic and Community Affairs to another state agency or department upon approval by a three-fourths vote of the commission and approval of both the current and receiving department directors.

• Requires commission and advisory board membership to reflect the racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity of the state; becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval.
