SB7 Summary

• Amends Section 6-5-338 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to extend tort liability immunity to firefighter paramedics and firefighter emergency medical technicians licensed by the State of Alabama.

• Grants immunity to these medical professionals when employed by the state, county, or municipality and operating on-duty in direct support of tactical law enforcement units.

• Defines covered activities as providing medical services, contingency planning, and operational weapon support at high-risk incidents including hostage situations, narcotic raids, armed suicides, barricaded suspects, and felony warrant service.

• Requires private non-governmental employers of peace officers or tactical medics working off-duty in uniform to maintain at least $100,000 in liability insurance; failure to carry insurance makes employers individually liable for the officer's actions.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and Governor approval.
