AL SB84

Amends Section 36-12-40 of the Alabama Code to expand public records exemptions to include school safety and security information.

Exempts from public disclosure security measures on school property, school alarm systems, camera numbers and placement, security personnel staffing, security contracts, employee schedules, and school bus routes.

Exempts security plans, procedures, assessments, and systems, as well as critical infrastructure and critical energy infrastructure information whose disclosure could reasonably be expected to harm public safety or welfare.

Requires public officers receiving records requests for critical infrastructure information to notify the infrastructure owner in writing and provide an opportunity to comment on the request and potential public safety threats.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
