SJR12 Summary

• Honors Bishop Michael Bruce Curry on his election and confirmation as the 27th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church at the 78th General Convention in Salt Lake City on June 27, 2015, making him the first African American to hold this position.

• Recognizes Curry's ordination to the diaconate in June 1978 and priesthood in December 1978, followed by his ministry as deacon-in-charge and rector at churches in North Carolina and Maryland from 1978 to 1988.

• Commends his tenure as the 11th Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina (elected February 11, 2000), where he launched a $400,000 campaign to purchase malaria nets that saved over 100,000 lives.
