• Commends Doctor Tommie H. Stewart (known as Tonea) of Montgomery, Alabama, for receiving the Mississippi Governor's Arts Award.

• Dr. Stewart is the Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Alabama State University and is being honored for excellence in acting and as an acting-educator.

• She was selected as one of five honorees by peers in the arts industry from hundreds of public nominations; previous honorees include B.B. King, Little Milton, and Bo Diddley.

• Dr. Stewart has performed in numerous film and stage productions throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center, and is best known for roles in "A Time to Kill," "Mississippi Burning," and "In the Heat of the Night."

• The Legislature directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Stewart with highest praise and honor.
