Commends Ciara Laird of Troy, Alabama, for receiving a 2016 Prudential Spirit of Community Award presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Recognizes Laird as one of the top two state honorees, earning $1,000, an engraved silver medallion, and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., in May 2016 for four days of educational experiences and national recognition events.

Highlights Laird's volunteer service including initiating and maintaining a continuous food drive, filling shoeboxes for children in need, making care packages for storm-affected families, assisting at a community garden, and volunteering at a local nursing home.

Notes that Laird, a fifth-grader, was nominated by New Life Christian Academy and was inspired to serve after witnessing someone eating from a trash dumpster outside a restaurant.
