HB210 Summary

• Requires the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) to create a searchable statewide database of persons issued pistol permits for use by law enforcement officers during traffic stops.

• Database shall be searchable by motor vehicle registration or driver's license number to identify if a car is registered to or being driven by a person with an issued pistol permit.

• Each pistol permit applicant must provide a copy of their driver's license to the sheriff, or if they lack one, certify that fact under penalty of perjury and provide alternate government-issued identification.

• County sheriffs must forward applicant identification information to ALEA in the format and manner prescribed by ALEA for database compilation.

• ALEA may promulgate rules necessary for database creation and implementation, with the database required to be operational before January 1, 2018; any state, county, municipal, or university law enforcement agency may utilize the database.
