AL HB327

Automatically suspends a member of the Legislature from their leadership position upon indictment for a felony in state or federal court, effective immediately.

Defines "leadership position" as President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, chair of any Senate standing committee, Speaker of the House, Speaker Pro Tempore, House Majority Leader, House Minority Leader, or chair of any House standing committee.

Allows suspended members to continue serving as legislators during the suspension, which remains in effect until the member is acquitted or charges are dismissed.

Requires vacancies in leadership positions resulting from suspension to be filled according to applicable legislative procedure.

Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor, or upon otherwise becoming law.
