HB334 Summary

• Amends Alabama law to exempt identifying information of law enforcement officers and district attorneys from public disclosure, including names and addresses of family members (spouses, children, parents, siblings).

• Requires the Ethics Commission to redact names and addresses of family members from economic interest statements filed in prior years (before 2017) upon request by affected public officials or employees.

• Expands the definition of "identifying information" exempt from public disclosure to include home addresses and phone numbers of employees and their family members, in addition to existing protections for sensitive personal data.

• Applies protections to all employees of law enforcement agencies, criminal justice entities, and judges, including deputy sheriffs, jailers, district attorneys, and certified peace officers.

• Effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
