HB38 Summary

• Reduces voluntary indigent defense advisory board meeting requirements from quarterly to at least once annually in each judicial circuit.

• Grants advisory board members civil immunity equivalent to state agents under Section 36-1-12.

• Authorizes the Office of Indigent Defense Services to adopt rules governing the activities and operations of voluntary indigent defense advisory boards.

• Takes effect on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor, or when otherwise becoming law.
