HB401 Summary

• Amends Section 11 of Act 91-533 regarding Talladega County special sales tax distribution to include the City of Mumford public library as a recipient.

• Allocates up to $50,000 annually for personnel and professional services approved by the Talladega County legislative delegation (one Senate member and two House representatives).

• Distributes remaining tax revenues among 13 categories including 12% to volunteer fire departments, 12% to bridge construction fund, 10% to health department, 10% to economic development authority, and 5% to public libraries in Childersburg, Lincoln, Mumford, Sylacauga, and Talladega on a pro rata population basis.

• Establishes a Talladega County Special Tax Trust Fund for remaining revenues and allows interest from the trust fund to be expended on approved projects after five years.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and gubernatorial approval.
