AL HB50

Requires the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission to investigate all allegations of excessive force by local county and municipal law enforcement officers, including incidents occurring up to three years before the effective date.

Mandates data collection on excessive force incidents including the race of the officer and victim(s), specific incident facts, court action status and disposition, and findings of any local review.

Requires the commission to compile an annual report with collected data and submit it to the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee.

Annual report must include preventative measures to train law enforcement officers in reducing excessive force incidents.

Act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
