HB517 Summary

• St. Clair County Board of Education shall consist of seven members: five elected from single-member districts and two elected at-large by county voters.

• The five single-member districts' boundaries are established based on attendance zones for the Ashville-Steele, Moody, Odenville, Ragland-Coal City, and Springville school districts.

• District member candidates must reside in their respective district for at least 90 consecutive days before the qualifying deadline and maintain residency throughout their term.

• At-large member candidates must be county residents for at least 90 consecutive days before the qualifying deadline and reside in the county during their entire term.

• Incumbent district members who are displaced by redistricting may continue serving the remainder of their elected term despite residing outside their district.

• The act becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and Governor approval.
