HB550 Summary

• Amends Section 36-7-21 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to expand the per diem exception for in-state overnight travel from $75 per day to allow actual and necessary expenses.

• Extends the exception to include state organizations (in addition to national organizations) where the state or individual is a dues-paying member.

• Applies the exception to travel for purposes of attending or assisting in hosting conventions, conferences, seminars, or other meetings of qualifying state or national organizations held within Alabama.

• Requires in-state travel authorized under this section to comply with the same documentation requirements as out-of-state travel.

• Takes effect immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
