HB 63 Summary

• Amends Section 30-2-55 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to modify the termination conditions for periodic alimony payments.

• Removes the requirement that cohabitation must be with a member of the opposite sex, allowing alimony termination when the receiving spouse cohabits with any other person regardless of sex.

• Defines "cohabit" as living together as a couple in a continuing romantic or intimate relationship in the same manner as if married.

• Applies only to petitions for termination of alimony awarded pursuant to divorce decrees entered on or after the effective date of this act.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
