HB69 Summary

• Amends Section 41-16-52 of the Code of Alabama 1975 to add an exemption from competitive bid requirements for repair parts and repairs of heavy duty equipment and vehicles exceeding 25,000 pounds gross weight when obtained from a manufacturer-authorized dealer or service center.

• Expands the existing $15,000 per-incident repair exemption for counties, municipalities, and instrumentalities (waterworks boards, sewer boards, gas boards, and other utility boards) to include purchases from authorized dealers or service centers without dollar limits.

• Allows governing boards and bodies to exercise exemption options by specific reference on purchase orders and purchase commitments, provided employees receive official prior approval or operate under formal adopted policies setting conditions and restrictions.

• Applies exemption to each separate repair incident rather than as an aggregate total per fiscal year for any individual vehicle or equipment.

• Becomes effective immediately upon passage and approval by the Governor or upon otherwise becoming law.
