• Establishes freedom from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or familial status as a civil right in Alabama.

• Applies to employment, public accommodations, property transactions, credit and contractual dealings, and political participation for individuals who are otherwise qualified.

• Defines employer as a person employing nine or more employees in the state for 20 or more calendar weeks in the current or preceding year.

• Allows civil actions for violations to recover compensatory and punitive damages, injunctive relief, back pay with interest, and attorneys fees; back pay liability limited to two years before filing.

• Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and gubernatorial approval.
