AL HB85

Defines over-the-counter spectacles as nonprescription, ready-to-wear magnifying glasses with spherical convex lenses intended to treat presbyopia symptoms.

Requires over-the-counter spectacle lenses to have no minus power (-) and may not exceed plus three and one-half diopters (+3.50).

Prohibits the sale of over-the-counter spectacles that do not conform to the statutory definition.

Authorizes the Board of Optometry, district attorneys, and the Attorney General to enforce violations of this act.

Becomes effective on the first day of the third month following passage and approval by the Governor.
