HB98 Summary

• Proposes a constitutional amendment to Alabama's Constitution declaring it state public policy to recognize and support the sanctity of unborn life and the rights of unborn children, including the right to life.

• Establishes that nothing in the Alabama Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of abortion.

• Amendment becomes valid upon approval by a majority of qualified electors voting in accordance with Sections 284, 285, and 287 of the Alabama Constitution of 1901.

• Election officials shall place the amendment on the ballot with a yes/no voting option and the specified ballot description.

• Directs the Attorney General to exhaust internal office resources and personnel before retaining outside counsel to defend against any constitutional challenges to the act.
