Commends Dr. Richard Showers for 28 years of outstanding service to the Huntsville City Council representing District 1 from October 3, 1988 to October 2016.

Recognizes Dr. Showers's 36 years of service as an educator with the Huntsville City School System before retiring on June 30, 2005.

Acknowledges his civic and community leadership awards including the Greater Interdenominational Ministerial Fellowship Award, NAACP Award for Excellence, Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Award, and NAFEO Distinguished Alabama A&M University Alumni/Presidential Citation.

Recognizes his active membership and leadership roles at Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church including service on the Deacon Ministry, Laymen Department, and as Senior Adult Sunday School Teacher.

Directs that Dr. Showers receive a copy of the resolution in appreciation for his service to District 1 residents and best wishes for continued success in future endeavors.
